Mindreel helps you find and understand ideas in long-form podcasts and videos, through short highlights, reels, knowledge cards, and answers. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It covers the Mindreel iOS and Android apps, the mind-reel.com website and web app, and the Mindreel browser extension (together, the “Service”). We designed Mindreel to work without an account and without cross-app tracking.
The Service is operated by MindReel Labs Inc., a Delaware (USA) corporation, with its registered office at 16192 Coastal Highway, Lewes, Delaware 19958, USA (“Mindreel”, “we”, “us”). For the purposes of the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), MindReel Labs Inc. is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.
Usage & product-interaction data. As you use the Service we record product events such as screen views, playback actions (start, pause, resume, seek, progress, close), saves, follows, searches, “Ask” requests, and reels you build. These events are tied to a random, app-generated installation identifier (a UUID we create on the device — not Apple’s or Google’s advertising ID and not your name or email). If you sign in, events are also linked to your account identifier. These events are pseudonymous rather than anonymous, and we treat them as personal data where the law requires. We use them to understand which features work, fix problems, and improve recommendations.
Preferences & library. The shows you follow, episodes you save, notes you write, and your playback and onboarding settings are stored on your device. If you sign in, they are also synced to our servers so you can restore them on another device.
Account information (only if you choose to sign in). In our apps, Mindreel offers Sign in with Apple: Apple shares your name and email only the first time you sign in, and you may choose Apple’s “Hide My Email” relay address. On the web, Mindreel offers Sign in with Google, which shares your name, email address, and profile picture. We do not collect passwords.
YouTube account data (only if you choose to connect it). On the web you can optionally grant Mindreel read-only access to your YouTube account. If you do, we retrieve your YouTube channel subscriptions, liked videos, and playlists through YouTube API Services, and use them only to personalise which shows and episodes Mindreel recommends to you. We do not post, edit, or delete anything on your YouTube account. You can disconnect at any time through Google’s security settings or by deleting your Mindreel account; we will delete the YouTube data we hold about you within 7 days of a deletion request.
“Ask” content. When you ask a question, your question text is sent to our backend and to our AI model providers (see below) to generate an answer grounded in podcast transcripts. They process it as our service providers. We may retain questions in aggregated or de-identified form to improve answer quality; they are not used to advertise to you, and we do not use them to train third-party foundation models. Please don’t include sensitive personal information in your questions.
Links you submit. If you paste a podcast or video link for Mindreel to process, we store the link and the resulting episode data, associated with your installation or account.
Notifications. If you allow notifications, we store a push-notification token from Apple or Google so we can send them. You can turn notifications off in your device settings.
Diagnostics. Our apps record basic crash and performance diagnostics (via Apple’s MetricKit on iOS) to help us fix stability issues. If you use a beta version, Apple or Google may additionally collect crash logs and any feedback you submit and share them with us under their own terms.
Website. The mind-reel.com website does not use advertising or analytics cookies. If you join our waitlist, we collect the email address you provide through our form-processing provider. Pages that include a YouTube embedded player may cause YouTube to set its own cookies under Google’s policies.
Mindreel processes publicly available podcast and video recordings. This involves the names, words, and voices of hosts and guests. We use them to create transcripts, to label who is speaking, and to attribute quotes and ideas to the right person. We do this on the basis of our legitimate interest in making public discussion searchable and accurately attributed. If you appear in content on Mindreel and want something corrected, or want to object to this processing, contact us at the address below.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We have not sold or shared personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we have no plans to.
Where the GDPR applies, we process your data on these bases: performance of a contract (running the Service and, if you sign in, your account and sync); legitimate interests (first-party analytics, security, crash diagnostics, and making public podcasts searchable and accurately attributed — balanced against your rights); and consent where required (for example connecting your YouTube account or receiving notifications). You can withdraw consent at any time; this does not affect processing that happened before. We do not make automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.
We share personal data only with service providers who process it on our behalf and under contract:
We may also disclose information if required by law, or as part of a corporate transaction (in which case this policy will continue to apply to data collected under it). We do not share your personal data with data brokers or advertisers.
Mindreel uses YouTube API Services. By using Mindreel you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service. Information collected through YouTube is also subject to the Google Privacy Policy. You can revoke Mindreel’s access to your Google or YouTube data at any time through Google’s security settings.
If you install the Mindreel browser extension, it works only on supported video pages to help you capture and open highlights in Mindreel, and it sends Mindreel only the data needed for that purpose. Our use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Our servers run on Google Cloud in the United States. If you use Mindreel from outside the US, your data will be transferred to and processed in the US. Where the GDPR applies to a transfer, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses as implemented in our service providers’ data-processing terms.
You can delete your account from within the app’s settings, which removes your account data from our servers. You can also email us (address below) to request deletion of any server-side data associated with your account or installation identifier, and we will delete it within 30 days (7 days for connected YouTube data) unless the law requires us to keep it.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a portable copy of your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. California residents have corresponding rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know, delete, and correct, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them — and, because we do not sell or share personal information, there is nothing to opt out of. Residents of the UAE have rights under Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on the Protection of Personal Data. EEA/UK users may also lodge a complaint with their local supervisory authority. To exercise any right, email us at the address below; we will verify the request using your installation identifier or sign-in email.
Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) between our apps and our servers, and stored with access controls on Google Cloud infrastructure. No system is perfectly secure, but we collect little, and whether to identify yourself at all is your choice.
Mindreel is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. Where local law sets a higher minimum age for consenting to data processing (up to 16 in parts of the EEA), that higher age applies. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this policy as the Service evolves. We will post the updated version here and revise the “Last updated” date above; for material changes we will also provide notice in the Service.
